In 2020, you have the choice of two very different, but complementary, trips to France. The first is a week-long linguistic immersion in Paris and the second, seven days in Bordeaux with esteemed wine judge and Brisbane News restaurant and wine critic, Tony Harper. Looking for even better news? You really don’t have to choose - you are more than welcome to do both! Read on for more information about each trip.

In 2019, un groupe courageux* made their way to Paris to participate in Lingua Franca’s inaugural Paris Summer School. Their daring paid off in spades. The trip was an unforgettable one: rewarding, surprising, productive, relaxed and above all, fun. Based on the positive reviews from our first-ever summer school attendees, we have decided to offer it in 2020, so if you missed out the first time, be sure to nab your spot tout de suite*!

PS If you’d like to get a feel for what to expect at the Summer School, check out 2019’s vlogs, covering all seven days. The videos are short, sweet and true to life.

As a city, Bordeaux really does have it all - the excitement of a big city with the friendliness of a village. It’s also extremely beautiful: clean, open and architecturally impressive. But it wasn’t always this way. Love him or loathe him, former prime minister Alain Juppé is credited by the Bordelais* for turning Bordeaux from La Belle Endormie (Sleeping Beauty) to France’s second-favourite city (after Paris) starting a massive regeneration programme to open up the riverfront, pedestrianise the city centre, clean up the architecture and install a hi-tech tram system. It has paid dividends – in 2007, half of the city was Unesco-listed, making it the largest urban world heritage site.

Come and (re)discover Bordeaux for yourself. This week is more about wine, food and culture than the French language (though our Chouchous* will still benefit from the semi-immersion) so if you’d like to bring along a friend or partner, they’d be very welcome. Tony Harper, owner of Craft Wine Store and Brisbane News food and wine writer, will be our guide for the week, sharing his vast knowledge of wine in his inimitable style.

Bordeaux’s dining scene is as exciting as it is varied. One common thread runs through the hundreds of establishments, though: a selection wines that is second-to-none, with a focus on locally-produced Bordeaux beauties.

Paris_Bordeaux_Elements12.png

A visit to the incredible Cité du Vin, a new generation wine museum, half-day trips to wineries both prestigious and hidden, and an afternoon spent slurping oysters at a bayside shack, pieds dans l’eau*…
